No diagrama acima, o desafio é posicionar as oito damas no tabuleiro de forma que nenhuma ataque outra. Há 92 formas diferentes de fazer isso!
Uma boa forma de treinar é reproduzir partidas às cegas até o momento de um arremate. Vamos fazer isso na peleja abaixo:

7-C(d4)b5-a6; 8-Cxd5?? o grande Reuben Fine (que ganhou o torneio) achou que estava abafando mas tomou fumo!! Como Yudovich arrematou?

Very fine ! The idea is get a double-attack, targeting "d8" and "h8". So, if Black exchanges Queens, then takes in "f6" with the pawn, Bxf6 creates the double, menacing mate in "d8" and the rook in "h8". If Black takes in "f6" with the pawn, White exchanges Queens, and Bxf6+ colects the rook.
Very, very fine...
But, what about a check in "b4" ? Hummm... Let´s try : ...axb5; Bxf6 an now, the bomb, Qxf6. Wow ! If Bxf6, the bolt from the blue Bb4+ wins for Black.
